Sunday Mornings



Worship.



We worship on Sunday mornings at 8:45 AM. We typically celebrate the Sacrament of the Altar during our services on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. If there is a 5th Sunday in the month, Pastor may choose to use a special order of service such as Matins.



Bible Class.


Our pastor serves both Zion and St. John's congregations. Bible Class is on Sundays nights at 7:00 PM at Zion. During the summer from some time around Memorial Day to some time around Labor Day, the Bible class does not meet. During this time there may be Bible classes held at other times during the week as people have interest and availability. If you would like information about classes that may be meeting or if you would be interested in getting a group together please feel free to contact us using the information below.


Sunday School.



Sunday School is held for gradeschool age children on Sunday mornings at 9:45am. As with Bible Class, during the summer months the Sunday School class does not meet. Depending on the size of the class, the Sunday school may meet in different rooms. You may ask whomever you find on a Sunday morning where things are being held or if you prefer you may contact us before hand.

History and Beginnings of Zion Lutheran Church





In March, 1880, the Rev. Andrew Mueller, Missionary at-large for Dakota Territory, came to Canistota in order to serve the scattered Lutheran families with Word and Sacrament. He located seven families northeast of town and held his first service for them at the home of Mr. Conrad Kirchner. Mr. Kirchner's daughter "Lillie" would go to the neighbors on foot to tell them of the arrival of the pastor and the impending services. Later the railroad depot, Presbyterian Church, and empty business places were used for services. The first child baptized in this region was Elizabeth, a daughter of Peter Beisel.

Zion Lutheran Church today





We all have a beginning. Zion began in the 1880s as a handfull of families got together around Word and Sacrament. We all change over the years too. We have added new buildings and remodeled old ones. We have seen lives added to God's kingdom through baptism and remembered the lives of those who now rest from their labors in God's presence. Yet through the years and their accompanying changes, we have not changed the foundation of our faith and our life. God is our foundation. We are built on His Word and Sacraments because that is where He is found.



Zion Lutheran Preschool





Continuing with this congregation's history of Christian education, Zion Lutheran Preschool is a ministry of the congregation that seeks to assist the young children of the community with their development in the world and in the faith. Other Ministries







Sewing Circle


The sewing circle is s group of ladies that meet on Monday and Thursday mornings to put together quilts. They make the quilts available for purchase but the majority of them are donated to graduating students of the congregation, confirmands, and local charities. If you would like to stop by one morning and join them for coffee, feel free to do so.



LWML


The Lutheran Women's Missionary League is a national organization of Lutheran women who get together to support various local and national (or international) ministries. Zion Lutheran Church has an LWML group that meets periodically to conduct their business. Contact us if you would like more information or you may visit the LWML's state or national websites.


LYF


Lutheran Youth Fellowship is our youth group at Zion. The youth group gets together for various activities and fundraisers (to help support more activities). If you would like to know more information about LYF or if you would like to become involved you may contact us for more information.
